Police in the Western Isles have confirmed the identity of man who died following a fall from a fishing boat south of Barra.
Gerard Gillies, aged 42, was airlifted to the Western Isles Hospital on the Isle of Lewis after the incident near Barra off the west coast of Scotland at about 1.30pm yesterday.
Stornoway Coastguard and Barra RNLI lifeboat crew were called to the scene but the man had been rescued by another fisherman by the time they arrived.
Mr Gilles was transferred to Western Isles Hospital where he died at 4.30pm.
The 42 year old fisherman came from from Barra.
His Next of kin have been informed.
A police spokeman said: “There are no suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal. “
