A north lifeboat has been launched this afternoon to rescue a fishing boat with a broken rudder off the coast of Lewis.
Stornoway lifeboat was called out a 1.55pm after the alarm was raised by one of the three crew members on board the vessel, which got into difficulty about 2.5miles north of Tiumpanhead.
A Stornoway Coastguard spokesman said that upon arrival, the lifeboat crew attached a tow rope to the boat and are now taking it back to Stornoway Harbour.
He added: “It was a broken down rudder so there was no control and the boat was drifting. Weather conditions are calm so the lifeboat team did not come into any difficulty.”
