An Orkney woman was taken to hospital yesterday after suffering light smoke inhalation during a kitchen fire in her home.
Two crews from Kirkwall went to the scene at the bungalow in the Weyland Bay area of the town following the 999 call at 1.07pm.
Firefighters used breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet to battle the flames and extinguished the blaze at about 1.30pm.
Thermal imaging cameras were also used to check for any remaining hotspots.
A fire service spokeswoman said: “There was an older lady suffering from light smoke inhalation. She was administered oxygen and taken to Balfour Hospital in Kirkwall.”
The spokeswoman added that the kitchen sustained 70% fire damage and 30% smoke damage as a result of the fire.
