A Moray music festival has been nominated for a top Scottish award – and organisers are calling on supporters to help it clinch the accolade.
Folk fans have descended on Fochabers for the past two decades to attend the annual Speyfest bash.
The event marked its 20th anniversary this summer with a headline performance from north-east songstress Sandi Thom, and it regularly attracts luminaries of the Scottish folk scene like Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham.
It has now been nominated for event of the year at a national awards ceremony organised by a Gaelic TV station.
The MG Alba Scots Trad Music Awards celebrates the country’s traditional music scene and this year’s shindig will take place next month in Dundee.
Supporters have until Friday, November 20, to cast their votes and Speyfest organisers have urged fans to back their chances of securing the prize.
Head of publicity, Claudia Smith, said: “We are honoured to be nominated, and want to thank our supporters for allowing us to get to this stage.
“We feel privileged to be recognised along with some of the best in the field, and would love it if our supporters would now vote for us so that we have a chance of winning the category.”
Event boss James Alexander hailed this year’s festival as “one of the best” on record.
He said “massive crowds” flocked to the Moray village to see Sandi Thom perform live.
Ms Thom, who was born in Banff and reached number one in the UK singles charts in 2006 with ‘I Wish I was a Punk Rocker (With Flowers in My Hair)’, praised the “electric” atmosphere.
She added: “Speyfest was my best gig of 2015 without a doubt.
“I flew 6,000 miles to play, and it was well worth the journey.”
The ceremony will take place at Dundee’s Caird Hall on Saturday, December 5.
