Blackburn reportedly looking to appoint former Celtic and Scotland midfielder as new manager

Paul Lambert will leave Blackburn Rovers at the end of the season
Paul Lambert will leave Blackburn Rovers at the end of the season

Former Scotland international Paul Lambert is the strong favourite to be appointed the new manager of Blackburn Rovers.

Blackburn are searching for a new manager after sacking Gary Bowyer earlier today.

The 44-year-old had been in charge at Ewood Park since May 2013, however, Rovers decided to wield the axe following a run of one win in six league games which sees the club languishing 16th in the Sky Bet Championship.

A statement released on behalf of the club’s owners, the Venkys on the club’s official website said: “Blackburn Rovers can confirm that manager Gary Bowyer has left the club,” it read.

“The owners felt that following a disappointing start to the season, they have to act in order to give the club the best chance of success in the remainder of the campaign.”

Following the dismissal of Bowyer the Venky family reportedly want Lambert to step in, in the hope he can repeat some of his Norwich City achievements which saw the Canaries promoted to the Premier League.

It is believed that the Venkys hope to have Lambert in the dugout for the Lancashire derby at Preston on Saturday, November 21.
