Colourful lighting could embellish a city centre colonnade if plans are approved.
Business coalition Aberdeen Inspired has submitted an application for “discrete LED feature lighting” to be installed on the historic granite structure at St Nicholas Churchyard, Union Street.
In August, the Press and Journal reported the organisation would spend £1.6million on a range of regeneration projects and improvements in Aberdeen.
These included a £250,000 renovation of the green space on the upper deck of the St Nicholas Centre.
A creative lighting project was launched earlier this year at the Duke of Gordon statue in Golden Square and the colonnade is an extension of the scheme, which aims to create attractive and safe areas for visitors.
Gary Craig, chief executive of Aberdeen Inspired, said: “We have had a great response to the creative lighting project so far and are looking forward to bringing it to a different part of the city centre pending the required listed building consent.
“We hope to enhance this further with the installation of creative lighting on the St Nicholas Kirk Colonnade and emphasise the importance of the area for visitors and locals alike.”
