Shetland Coastguard received a call from the ship Skog at about 3.10am after it reported a loss of power. The Barbados-registered vessel is currently about four miles north of the island of Papa Westray and has since started to take on water. Sumburgh-based search helicopter Rescue 900 has been sent to the scene with a pump to try and clear some of the water. The Orkney emergency tug Herakles has also been dispatched to the scene with the aim of towing the Skog to safety. The Stromness lifeboat is also standing-by at the scene. A spokeswoman for Shetland Coastguard said that nobody aboard the stricken vessel is reported to be injured.
