The Barbabos-registered Skog first ran into trouble at about 3am on Tuesday morning, sparking a major rescue operation. The 325ft ship was carrying a load of paper from Norway and lost power while passing about four miles north of Papa Westray. The ship also began to take on water during the operation, with a number of pumps being put aboard by the Shetland Coastguard helicopter Rescue 900. Lifeboats from Kirkwall and Stromness were also involved in the operation to rescue the ship. Skog was brought under tow yesterday morning by the Orkney emergency tug ETV Herakles. A Shetland Coastguard spokesman said it arrived in Kirkwall Harbour at about 12.40am on Wednesday for repairs. Skog’s ten crew members remained aboard throughout the rescue and are all uninjured.
