Funeral arrangements have been made for one of Moray’s best-loved businessmen.
David Urquhart, the former managing director of the Gordon and Macphail whisky company, died at the age of 63 on Monday after losing his fight with cancer.
He was the third generation of his family to run the globally recognised drinks firm.
Mr Urquhart was also a key figure in ensuring the success of the Piping at Forres European bagpiping championship event in recent years.
Upon his passing, he was remembered as a true community champion, and a “legend” in the whisky industry.
Mr Urquhart will be laid to rest on Friday, December 11.
There will be a celebration of his life at St Columba’s South Church in Elgin at 12.30pm, and he will be buried at Kinloss New Cemetery.
Mr Urquhart’s death was mourned across Moray and it is expected that many will wish to pay him their final respects at the service.
He began his career with Gordon and Macphail by working in the company’s shop on Elgin’s South Street.
And in 2009 he helped form the Elgin Business Improvement District group, with a view to regenerating trade in the heart of Moray’s biggest town.
The organisation’s David Robertson said it was “a privilege” to work alongside the whisky stalwart, and described him as “an outstanding member of the business community”.
Mr Urquhart died surrounded by family at his home in Findhorn.
He leaves behind wife Sheila and twin sons Richard and Stuart.
People who wish to make donations have been asked to pledge their support to the Marie Curie cancer support charity, as there will be a collection point at the church door.
Alternatively, funds can be forwarded to funeral director Andrew Smith, at 20 High Street in Forres.
