A fundraising Moray family is reviving a Christmas tradition in an effort to raise cash for charity and spread festive cheer.
Janice Gregor says that one of the highlights of the season for her as a youngster was when the local fire service would parade a decorated float past houses.
Last year, she and her family relaunched the fondly-recalled custom and helped collect nearly £1,400 for the Archie foundation by touring Elgin in a truck which they had specially adapted for the occasion.
This year, the vehicle has been lit up “like the Blackpool tower” and the group plan a bigger and better journey through the town.
Last year the parade stretched six miles on both evenings, but Moray Council agreed to allow the parade to extend nine miles both last night and tonight.
An excited Ms Gregor promised residents a “bigger spectacle” this weekend.
She said: “We’ve had longer to plan for it this time, and it’s definitely bigger and better.
“It was just an idea for a fundraiser I had last year, but it was so well received that it has just snowballed.
“We have tinselled my brother-in-law’s truck to death for it, and it has been decorated with enough lights to rival Blackpool Tower.”
The events have proved a hit with residents who share Ms Gregor’s relish for the “Santa on the Streets” processions which they recall from their childhoods.
“It brought back lovely memories for a lot of people”, she added.
Collections are being staged to raise funds for the Archie foundation and CLIC Sargent charities this year.
Last night, the festive cavalcade blasted seasonal tunes around New Elgin, and, tonight, the parade will pass through parts of Bishopmill.
