Police have found a body in the remains of a Scottish home hit by a serious fire on Boxing Day.
Officers said they could not enter the building due to structural damage caused by the blaze – so did not find the person’s remains until today.
The fire took place at a croft house in Kilmuir on the Isle of Skye.
A police spokesperson said: “Due to the level of damage caused by the fire, police and fire officers were unable to enter the premises until it could be confirmed as structurally safe.
“An examination of the premises has since taken place and police can confirm that sadly the remains of a person were discovered within the house. Enquiries remain ongoing at this time to confirm the identity of the deceased.
“A joint police and fire investigation was carried out into the cause of the fire and it can be confirmed that the incident is not being treated as suspicious.
“A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
