Plucky swimmers braved the icy waters of the North Sea and kicked off 2016 with a splash for the annual Stonehaven Nippy Dippers.
Around 60 people, dressed in a diverse range of costumes from Batman to Santa Claus, endured the cold to raise funds for cancer charity CLIC Sargent.
After a rousing warm-up by lead dipper Michael Hopkins, swimmers young and old rushed into the sea.
Mr Hopkins said this swim was his “swan song” and he is entitled to put his feet up, given that he has raised about £4,500 in eight years.
The Stonehaven swimmer said he had lost his mum to cancer and the charity was a very important cause.
CLIC Sargent hoped to raise about £10,000 from this year’s event.
Among those taking part was 22-year-old Amanda Yule on her maiden ‘nippy dip’.
The brave fundraiser from Oldmeldrum has raised more than £50,000 for the charity after being diagnosed with leukaemia at the age of 15.
She hailed the support given by the charity to her and her family as she underwent treatment in Glasgow.
Miss Yule said: “When I was 15, I got diagnosed and I had to go down to Glasgow and have a bone marrow transplant.
“Without CLIC Sargent’s help, my mum and dad wouldn’t have been able to stay down with me.”
Mary Poppins even dropped in for a visit, complete with her broken umbrella.
“It was brilliant,” said Jacqueline Wake Young, 48, who was dressed as the famous nanny.
“I had the hat and didn’t have anything else, so I just threw it all together.
“I found the broken umbrella in the back of the car and I am really glad I did it.
“I can’t think of a better charity to do it for. That’s why I came and did it.”
