A Moray theatre group is defying convention by staging its pantomime this month to help locals combat the winter blues.
While most pantos strive to celebrate the festive period, the Hopeman Amateur Dramatic Society says its production of Peter Pan will brighten up dour January days.
The group traditionally holds the show after Christmas, and three performances will take place next week at the village’s Memorial Hall.
Director Nikki Burnel, who has previously overseen productions of Sleeping Beauty and Beauty and the Beast, has been rehearsing with her cast since September.
“It’s a good thing to do in January, as there isn’t much else happening at this time of year,” she said.
“It cheers people up at a time of year when they might not be so cheerful, and brightens up a dull afternoon.”
Among comedy highlights will be dames Ninny and Nanny, and a troupe of local youngsters have been polishing their routines ahead of the shows.
Mrs Burnel added: “There are lots of good jokes, and though much of the laughs come from the dames, the young kids have some good lines too.
“Going on stage is good for their confidence, especially if they get a good round of laughter.”
Tickets can be purchased from Hopeman’s Costcutter store for £5 each, with all proceeds going to local charities.
Performances will take place next Thursday and Friday from 7pm, and from 1pm and 5.30pm on Saturday.
