A hole was found in the runway following heavy downpours and it was closed for both arrivals and departures at 5.10pm. Staff have been working to repair the hole, which is believed to have been caused by the torrential rain. Since about 7pm Aberdeen Airport has been operating with a shortened runway of “1,591 metres”. An airport spokesman said this “shorter than normal” and the runway was not for arrival flights. “Arrivals may be diverted or they may be cancelled. Each individual airline has its own decision to make about that,” the spokesman said. It was hoped full service could resume tomorrow.
