A north MP has had a bright idea for boosting phone signal in the islands – using lighthouses.
Western Isles MP Angus MacNeill has been in discussion with the Northern Lighthouse Board (NLB) about the feasibility of providing following a query from mobile provider EE.
Mr MacNeill hopes that providing space for network providers at the lighthouses could be used to boost the network – and possibility introduce 4G to the islands.
He said the NLB had made a “positive response” to the idea.
He added: “I wrote to NLB at the end of last year after discussions with mobile operators on how to escalate the timetable for bringing 4G to the area.
“NLB have said that they are committed to developing the Scottish economy and are therefore open to discussions with mobile providers on where opportunities might lie.
“I would like to thank NLB for their prompt sensible response and their ability to see the bigger picture.”
