A leading social care charity is looking for sponsors to come forward with help for its annual fundraising ball.
The VSA ball has raised more than £700,000 in the last seven years, supporting thousands of vulnerable people in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.
All profits raised from this’s year will go to VSA mental health services.
The charity provides safe places for people with mental health issues, as well as offering support to give them more independence.
It has five centres across the city as part of its mental health service.
VSA has said that one in four people in the UK will experience some kind of mental health issue in the next 12 months, be it friends, family, loved ones or work colleagues.
Alan Reid, director of communications with the charity said more people were talking about mental health.
In the political world, opposition parties were also calling for more people and more resources to be assigned to mental health services.
Mr Reid said: “We’ve realised that for some time and we’ve realised the problem.”
Job losses in the oil and gas sector could also mean more people coming to VSA for mental health support.
He added: “I think we would be surprised if we didn’t see an increase for VSA because of the situation.
“We are hearing nationally, through the media, about the number of people who have been affected by these quite severe job losses.”
Pub and restaurant chain The Speratus Group has been the main sponsor of the event for several years and director Garreth Wood is still supporting the charity through burger restaurant The Boozy Cow which donates its profits to good causes.
The VSA charity ball will be held at Ardoe House Hotel on November 5.
