A Macbeth expert will highlight the bloodthirsty past surrounding one of Moray’s local legends during a documentary screening tomorrow night.
Keen local historian Cameron Taylor will present a talk detailing the true story behind one of William Shakespeare’s most celebrated works, as well as showcasing the recent The Real Macbeth documentary.
A crew of Forres filmmakers completed the work on location across the region last year, in response to a big budget Hollywood adaptation of the Shakespeare classic.
As an expert on “the Scottish play”, Mr Taylor was drafted in as adviser to the crew, and acted as onscreen narrator.
He said: “Since Macbeth was brought back to the public fore last year, a lot of people’s interest in that story has been rekindled, along with a desire to find out the history behind it.
“We had costumes from the Hollywood movie on display in Moray as well, which only fuelled that interest further.
“We really do want to get across the real events though, they are fascinating to people in Moray.
“People here feel a real tangible connection to these people and places, as they know the surroundings they occurred in.”
The Real Macbeth tells of how one of Scotland’s most famed historic figures took the country’s throne in 1040, after his men killed King Duncan at Bothnagowan, now Pitgaveny, near Elgin.
Tomorrow evening’s event will bring an end to more than a week of activities staged to celebrate the town’s past at Elgin Library, which has been organised by the team behind the Castle to Cathedral to Cashmere historical trail project.
The screening will begin in the Gallery at 7pm.
