An 87-year-old man has died and a woman has been seriously injured after their cars were involved in a crash on a north-east road.
The man died when the blue Hyundai i30 car he was driving was involved in a two-car crash on the A96 Aberdeen to Inverurie Road at its junction with the B979, known locally as the Tyrebagger junction.
The 61-year-old woman driving the other car, a red Mini Cooper, was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary with serious injuries.
Police Scotland is appealing for anyone who witnessed the accident, which took place at about 7.10pm on Friday, to get in contact.
Sergeant Rob Warnock said: “Sadly, I can confirm that an 87-year-old man has died as a result of this collision and my thoughts are with his friends and family at this tragic time.
“We would also like to speak to any drivers who may have seen the incident or the immediate aftermath, including a lorry driver who passed the scene.
“They may have information which could help our investigation and I would appeal for them to contact us. If you have any information, please contact Police Scotland on 101.”
