Last-minute entrants are being encouraged to take the plunge for a charity fundraiser to make polio a thing of the past.
Elgin Rotary Club is staging its second Swimarathon on Saturday, February 20, to raise cash to help eradicate the disease.
The event – which raised £5,000 for the End Polio Now organisation last year – challenges fundraisers to complete at least six lengths in pools at Elgin or Lossiemouth in the space of an hour.
Yesterday, Rotary members sent out an appeal for more swimmers to take part and top that total this time.
Rotarian Brian Cantlay said: “We just want to make it bigger and better, and we have the pool at Elgin for two hours this time instead of just one.
“We’ve already had a lot of interest but we can accommodate more people and we want to raise as much money as possible.
“Last year we had folk aged from seven to 70 taking part – as long as entrants can manage six lengths they are able to join.”
Participants can enter as individuals or in teams of up to five members. The events are in relay format, with lanes for different competency levels.
Children under 12 must donate £5 to enter, while others are asked to give £10. Swimmers are also encouraged to raise sponsorship as well.
The sessions will be held at Moray Leisure Centre in Elgin from noon to 2pm, and at Lossiemouth swimming pool from 4pm to 5pm.
Entry forms are available at both venues, at libraries in Elgin, Lossiemouth and Burghead, or at www.elgin.rotary1010.org
