North East Scotland College is to become the first in Scotland to offer physics as part of a science course.
The college is believed to be the only one offering physics as an option on it HNC applied science course.
Students have been able to study applied sciences with chemistry or biology for a number of years.
Dr Doug Fraser, curriculum and quality manger for science at NES Col, said: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to assist SQA in making this option available to those interested in physics and we hope to attract students from across Scotland to this varied and interesting course.
“Both options are ideal for those who wish to move straight into employment or those who want to progress to further study at college or university.”
As part of ongoing investment in its Fraserburgh Campus, the college is installing new science teaching facilities.
This will help the college to offer full-time science courses at the campus for the first time.
The new HNC applied science course starts in August.
