Josh Hadfield, 10, can be seen watching a film on an iPad and laughing. But the more he enjoys the film the closer he gets to a cataplectic attack – weakening his muscles and making him fall asleep.
Young Josh, from Frome, developed the condition within three weeks of receiving the Pandemrix vaccine in 2010.
He would fall asleep up to every five minutes – even when he was walking, eating and swimming – and suffered sudden seizures when he laughed.
And despite winning a £120,000 payout after his mother fought tooth and nail for compensation, life is still far from easy.
Life is difficult for little Josh as normal activities – such as riding a bike or going swimming – as a no go.
