SYHA Hostelling Scotland’s Portree Youth Hostel on the Isle of Skye has had a great first year hosting over 14,500 overnight guests since it opened on 6 March 2015.
Following on from this success, and as part of the planned development for the hostel, the facilities have been enhanced with a new extended lounge area, dining room and self-catering kitchen. In addition, a further two private bedrooms have been created in the upper building. Guests will also now be able to enjoy a continental breakfast at the hostel.
Portree is a popular destination for all types of travellers, ideally located for those wishing to explore the town and experience the attractions and hospitality on the Isle of Skye.
SYHA Chief Executive Keith Legge said: “The Isle of Skye is one of the must-visit destinations in Scotland and we have certainly seen Portree’s popularity with guests this year. Overall, the comments on Portree have been very positive and I’m sure that the recent enhancements will further boost this. SYHA introduced a Customer Service Charter earlier this year and listening to guest feedback is an important part of this. One of the things about youth hostelling which our guests really like is the option to self-cater and a communal space to meet other people and swap stories about their travels.”
The opening of Portree Youth Hostel is part of SYHA’s strategic plan to modernise its popular youth tourism destination hostels to meet guests’ expectations. This plan includes an increased number of private and family rooms, whilst retaining the youth hostelling ethos of fellowship of likeminded individuals. The next planned development is the construction of a new youth hostel at Glen Nevis in 2017.
