The St Magnus International Festival on Orkney will celebrate its 40th edition this year with an extended programme of events in June.
Since 1977, world-class musical performances, art exhibitions and community festivities have attracted visitors from across Britain and beyond to the islands.
The 40th celebrations will feature 40 new art works, and premieres of 40 new pieces of music, including works for children, voices, solo instruments, ensembles and orchestra.
It will also remember composer Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, founder of the festival, who died this month, including a tribute concert on June 23.
The festival runs from June 16 and 26.
Artistic director and composer Alasdair Nicolson said: “I have had a lot of fun planning ways to celebrate our first 40 years – this summer’s programme is vibrant and varied and true to the spirit of the festival from its start.
“The 40th Festival is a major milestone and we are so proud to look back over the fascinating and impressive array of international artists who have appeared.
“One sad commemoration, but we hope also celebration, will be performances to mark the life and work of festival founder and composer, Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, who sadly died earlier this year.”
