The Church of Scotland’s most senior minister will meet some of Moray’s colourful characters during an upcoming tour of the region.
The Right Rev Dr Angus Morrison, moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, will get a taste of the area by meeting soldiers, airmen, whisky distillers and fishermen during his trip.
After touching down in Moray on April 30, he will spend eight days visiting some of the area’s most valued religious and community groups.
Rev Morrison said the Moray Presbytery had lined up a “fascinating programme” for the trip, which involves a visit to RAF Lossiemouth and Kinloss Barracks for an insight into the role the military plays in local life.
He will also learn about the Speyside whisky industry during a visit to the Glen Grant distillery at Rothes, and will call in at the famed Walkers shortbread factory at Aberlour.
Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) volunteers at Buckie will explain the work they do in keeping the region’s shoreline safe.
And Rev Morrison will congratulate the trust which runs a historic Speyside mill on some recent awards success.
The Knockando Woolmill Trust was just one of four projects in the UK to receive a prestigious prize from the European Commission this week.
Rev Morrison said: “It will be a privilege and delight to spend time with colleagues there, and to visit congregations.
“I am very grateful for all the effort that has gone into preparing a full and fascinating programme.”
He will also visit Anderson’s Care Home in Elgin, New Elgin Primary School and Cluny Fish Supplies in Buckie.
The Moderator will hand out long-service certificates to members of the 1st Buckie Boys Brigade and attend a service for the deaf at Bellie Church in Fochabers.
He will preach at Findochty Church, Portknockie Church and St James’ Church in Lossiemouth.
