An oil worker who posed for a photo with a bomb belt-wearing plane hijacker could appear on the latest series of Celebrity Big Brother.
Ben Innes was on en route from Alexandria to Cairo when a Seif Eldin Mustafa hijacked Flight MS181 last month.
The 27-year-old got a photograph of himself taken grinning by the hijacker, which went viral after he sent it to his flatmate in the north-east.
Despite contacting his mother as the drama unfolded to reassure her he would keep a low profile, Mr Innes eventually decided to “throw caution to the wind while trying to stay cheerful in the face of adversity” and pose for a picture with his captor.
Now Big Brother bosses, clearly inspired by Mr Innes’s “quirky personality”, want to bring him into the house.
Last year’s Channel 5 show was hit by a series of controversies, from an infamous bust-up between Aisleyne Horgan-Wallace and Farrah Abraham, which saw police called to the studios, to Winston Mckenzie’s homophobic slur.
Communications regulator Ofcom also received more than 200 complaints after the show decided to air the hysterical reaction to David Bowie’s death in the house.
Although his suicide belt turned out to be a fake, Mustafa faces charges of hijacking, illegal possession of explosives, kidnapping and threats to commit violence.
