Staff at an Aberdeen primary school are working hard to ensure all pupils can achieve their best, inspectors have found.
Education Scotland has published a report this week on Muirfield School and nursery class.
The inspectors found progress has been made in literacy and numeracy and there is a calmer environment at the school and nursery for children to play and learn since their visit last January.
The inspectors wrote in a letter: “The acting head teacher and depute head teacher are very committed and are working very hard to improve the school to ensure all children can achieve their best”.
However, they acknowledged that due to staffing issues previously, some of the children had “gaps in their knowledge, skills and understanding” expected.
“Disruption to the quality of children’s learning in recent years, as a result of staffing issues, has had a negative impact on children’s progress,” they said.
“In most classes there is a considerable gap between the higher attaining children and those who require additional support in their learning.
“By P7, too many children have gaps in their knowledge, skills and understanding expected at their stage.
“For example there are important gaps in their literacy skills which should have been achieved at earlier stages. Staff are now taking steps to address this issue.”
Education Scotland will return to the school for another inspection within six months.
