Workers at a US aquarium have caught on film the incredible moment a male Marconi penguin cheered as his mate laid an egg.
The marine experts at Chattanooga’s Tennessee aquarium captured the footage while observing the two penguins roosting in their next and shared the video to celebrate the start of the 2016 nesting season.
The short video, released April 25 on World Penguin Day, shows female Marconi Sweet Pea laying the egg and her mate Paulie making loud calls and moving his head from side to side.
Loribeth Lee, the aquarium’s senior aviculturist, said: “Macaronis often swing their heads from side to side and let out very loud calls as a sign of courtship during nesting season. It was extra sweet to catch Paulie vocalising right after Sweet Pea laid her egg.”
