One-way system to start on busy Aberdeen road next week
ByJoanne Warnock
One of Aberdeen’s busiest roads will be transformed into a one-way route next week to allow for further BT Openreach roadworks.
The measure will be enforced on King Street, between West North Street and Mealmarket Street, from Monday, May 9 to Friday, May 13.
Motorists will only be able to travel southbound towards Union Street. Those wishing to go in a northbound direction are advised to use West North Street, the Mounthooly roundabout, or the Mounthooly Way instead.
Mealmarket Street will also be closed between junctions with West North Street and King Street to allow for the works.
Councillor Neil Cooney, communities, housing and infrastructure convener, said: “Due to the width of the road, this work could not be done with temporary traffic signals, as these would be too close to the existing signals.”
“The roadworks are expected to be completed in less than the five days allocated, weather permitting.”
