Fettercairn Show organisers have issued a plea to farmers and equestrian enthusiasts in the area to get their entries in for this year’s show by June 1.
The event, which is organised by the Fettercairn Farmers’ Club, kick starts the north-east agricultural show season. This year’s show takes place on Saturday, July 2, at East Bridgend Park, Fettercairn.
The 2016 show will once more feature a display from the Mearns Vintage Vehicle Club, as well as the usual competitions for livestock and horses. The highlight for competitors is the show champion of champions competition, which sees the beef, sheep and horse champion go head-to-head for the top accolade.
Last year’s title was awarded to a Limousin cross heifer named Lady Moo Moo from Blair Duffton and Rebecca Stuart. The heifer, which went on to win several show championships last summer, was bred by Grant Morrison at Newtack, Keith.
Also trying for the top title were the sheep and horse championships. The sheep interbreed title went to the Suffolk breed champion – Redbrae Real Deal – from James Scott, of Strathview, Ingliston, Forfar. The champion horse rosettes were awarded to the Highland breed champion – West Lodge Alexander – from Susanne Shepherd, of East Brachmant, Durris, Banchory.
