A Moray band has proved a surprise hit with Spanish audiences.
The Carousels produce their own records from a small studio in guitarist Roy McPherson’s Keith home, and then distribute the finished articles among music labels.
Their debut LP, Love Changes Like The Seasons, was released in 2014 through London-based Sugar Bush Records.
Mr McPherson said the album “sold surprisingly well” and has now been picking up steam on the continent.
He added: “The album was sold on to different markets, and now our latest single has been released on a Spanish record label called You Are The Cosmos.
“Now we get quite a lot of messages from Spain, and that buzz is spreading to places like Italy and America.”
Mr McPherson, who writes the band’s songs alongside fellow Keith resident James Smith, said the group is now setting its sights on performing live in the Mediterranean country.
The 33-year-old said: “That is something that we are looking for in the future.”
The Carousels formed in Moray in 2009, but the group has concentrated on recording more than performing in recent years, as several members reside in the central belt.
Mr McPherson said the group’s distinctive sound has been inspired by some legendary acts.
He said: “We are pretty heavily influenced by 1960s folk and pop music, we’re into classic stuff like Bob Dylan, The Byrds and John Lennon.
“We don’t set out to record in any genre, all these different influences just tend to come out in the studio.”
Mr McPherson works as a sports instructor with several schools in Moray, while his bandmates’ professions include work in architecture, teaching and dentistry.
The band is now working on a second LP, which they hope to have finished by the end of this year.
