A teenage girl has been taken to hospital by helicopter after stumbling down a steep Shetland hill while working to gain her Duke of Edinburgh award.
The youngster was part of a group of six who ventured to the Burn of Deepdale today but fell and is said to have hit her head “many times” in the fall.
Another teenager with the girl phoned the Coastguard who dispatched a helicopter at around 1.20pm.
The girl has no broken bones but is being kept overnight in Gilbert Bain hospital for observation.
A Shetland Coastguard spokesman said: “They did a good job phoning us as soon as their friend hurt herself.
“The one who phoned said she had hit her head many times as she went down the hill.
“I have spoken with the hospital who said she doesn’t seem to have any broken bones but she will probably be kept in for observation.”
