A Shetland nursery has been commended after an unannounced inspection earlier this month.
Isles Haven Nursery in Lerwick was given “very good” grades in each of the four categories assessed by the Care Inspectorate during their visit on June 1.
Inspectors highlighted the welcoming environment provided for children, with a wide range of interesting activities for children.
Staff are friendly and caring and adult supervision was found to very good and parents felt that staff knew their child.
Staff are also keen to encourage children to develop a healthy attitude to outdoor play.
Inspectors found that manager and staff members were motivated, keen and enthusiastic about the service.
Some areas for improvement were identified including training for staff on working with under-threes.
Vaila Wishart, chairwoman of Shetland Islands Council’s education and families committee said – “Since the last unannounced inspection in 2014, Isles Haven Nursery has improved from good grades to very good across all inspected areas which is a significant achievement for the service.
“This report by the Care Inspectorate is a positive endorsement of the service and its approach to early years care and education.”
