Classic car enthusiasts will pay homage to a fellow fanatic who died of cancer as they tour the north-east next month.
The Clan Cancer Support charity’s third annual cavalcade will honour the Moray man who founded the event in 2014.
Organisers say this summer’s effort will hold a “special poignancy” as motorists remember Ron Billing.
Mr Billing died at the end of March at the age of 81, after losing his battle with prostate cancer.
Clan described the Portgordon resident, who also volunteered at its Elgin centre, as “the driving force” behind the fundraiser.
Mr Billing’s widow, Mary, said that the classic car aficionado, who was a member of the Moray Historic Wheels group, was eager that the event continue.
She added: “This is what he would have wanted to see, the last two took a lot of organising for him but he was always happy to do it.
“I hope that a lot of people are interested in taking part and help to keep it going.”
Yesterday, Clan’s Moray group paid tribute to Mr Billing as members unveiled plans for this year’s drive.
Services coordinator Tracy Sellar said: “We will be thinking about Mr Billing during the event, we are indebted to him for coming up with the idea and for being integral to its continued success.
“He was much-loved at Clan and in Moray, and his enthusiasm for classic cars was there for all to see.
“There is no better way to pay him tribute than by making this the biggest and best cavalcade yet.”
The drive will depart from Elgin at 10am on Friday, July 29.
The convoy will motor across the north-east, stopping at the Clan base in Turriff before visiting Balmoral Castle.
Motorists will then visit the charity’s Balleter centre and take a scenic route back to Elgin for 5.30pm.
Last year’s event raised approximately £3,000 to fund free support services to north-east cancer sufferers.
Ms Sellar added: “It’s always an incredible sight to see the spread of classic and vintage vehicles line-up outside Balmoral Castle.
“We’re looking for drivers to join us; it’s a chance to meet other enthusiasts, take in stunning scenery and raise valuable funds.”
