Some of Scotland’s best classical musicians will share their skills with Moray youngsters during a family fun day next weekend.
Members of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra are staging an open day event at Forres’s Falconer Museum on Sunday, June 26.
The talented instrumental ensemble has organised similar initiatives in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dundee in the past, but this will be the furthest north they have ventured.
The orchestra’s family events organiser, Anna Hainsworth, said children could try their hand at a variety of instruments during the day.
She added: “This is a great opportunity for children to absorb orchestral music in a laid-back environment.
“There are instruments from all sections of the orchestra to try out, and workshops to join in.
“Seeing the children’s reactions the first time when they pick up a violin or trumpet is hugely rewarding, and a lot of fun.”
The workshops are aimed at children, aged between four and nine, and there will be several orchestral performances.
The event will run from 1pm to 4.15pm next Sunday, and more information is available at www.sco.org.uk.
Meanwhile, Moray Council has announced plans for its annual youth orchestra course and concert.
The authority’s Moray Music Centre will run lessons from Monday, July 4, to Friday, July 8, at Elgin Academy – with a concert that evening at the secondary school.
Leading conductor Nigel Boddice will teach more than 80 pupils from across the region during the week and will take the baton for the climactic showcase.
Mr Boddice spent 20 years as principal trumpet with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and has played all over the world.
Classes will run from 10am to 3.45pm every day.
