A university volleyball star celebrated acing her way to academic success at His Majesty’s Theatre yesterday.
Catrin Sutherland, from Kirkwall, Orkney, picked up a first class honours in management from the Robert Gordon University (RGU) in Aberdeen.
The 22-year-old is no stranger to success, having coached the RGU volleyball team to victory in this year’s Conference Cup, where they beat off competition from universities across Scotland to win the trophy.
And she said it was a fitting end to her final year in the Granite City.
She said: “I played throughout university, starting off as the captain in first year and taking on coaching this time.
“We had been really unlucky in the past with injuries but it was great to win it this year as a lot of the team are graduating.
“I’m quite bad with injuries so coaching will be a great way for me to stay involved in the volleyball community.”
The former Kirkwall Grammar School pupil says her time at RGU unlocked her potential as an entrepreneur.
In 2014, she was part of the winning team at the Young Innovators Challenge, winning £10,000.
Miss Sutherland hopes to secure a graduate job back home and then go travelling around Australia.
She added: “Ultimately I would like to start my own business.”
