A north-east sports hall is set to close for a fortnight to allow for flooring upgrades.
Aberdeenshire Council has claimed the temporary closure of the three-court sports hall at Turriff Sports Centre will help make the facility “spick and span again”.
The facility, which is currently used by a range of local groups for activities including badminton, table tennis and judo, will be closed between Monday, August 1 and Monday, August 15.
This will allow council workers to repair the floor, including a full varnish and relining.
Last night John Harding, the local authority’s leisure boss, said: “The hall has been used by thousands of people since it was laid in 1995 and we want to bring it back up to tip-top condition again.
“The council would like to apologise for any inconvenience the closure might cause during these two weeks, but we would like to reassure the people who use the sports centre that neither the fitness room, nor the all-weather pitches will be affected by the closure.”
Alternative facilities are available in Fraserburgh and Mintlaw.
Mr Harding added: “I would like to thank users for their patience while we carry out this upgrade.”
