The family of a missing fisherman has been informed a man’s body has been discovered at a loch in Orkney.
Stanley Boyd Livingstone, 68, was reported missing two weeks ago after failing to return from a fishing trip with his brother Andrew, 71.
Andrew’s body was recovered from the shoreline at Loch of Boardhouse near Birsay shortly after a major search operation was launched the following day.
And last night police confirmed another man’s body has been recovered from the loch and, while he is yet to be formally identified, the Livingstones’ family has been kept informed.
The grim discovery was made by a member of the public shortly before 5pm yesterday afternoon.
In a statement, a police spokesman said: “Police in Orkney along with the Coastguard are currently in attendance at the Loch of Boardhouse area, near Birsay, after the body of a man was recovered following a report from a member of the public shortly before 5pm today.
“The body is yet to be formally identified but the family of Stanley Boyd Livingstone, 68, have been made aware.”
The two brothers were both from the Dounby area and had set off to fish for trout before the tragedy.
Neighbours described the men at the time as “nice gentlemen” who “kept themselves to themselves”.
A major search operation was launched after the brothers had been reported missing.
Members of the public took to the water in their owns and also helped search the shoreline of the freshwater loch.
The coastguard also deployed ground teams and a helicopter to assist police.
The body of Andrew Livingstone was discovered a short distance from a Jeep the men had used to reach the loch, while their boat was also discovered nearby.
Police divers took to the water last week in search of Boyd, but the search proved unsuccesful.
At the time of the initial police search Orkney area inspector Alicen Winston said that, although inquiries would continue, the incident “appears to be a tragic accident”.
