Aberdeenshire firefighters will turn their station into a car wash next month as they raise cash for a cause close to their hearts.
On Saturday, September 10 the team at Stonehaven Fire Station will get to work making vehicles sparkle in a fundraising drive for the Fire Fighters Charity.
The Stonehaven team are one of a huge number of fire teams the length and breadth of the UK taking part in the annual National Car Wash.
The Fire Fighters Charity provides support and rehabilitation to the fire and rescue community following dangerous, stressful or traumatic work.
It supports both firefighters and their families, and the car wash event is its largest fundraiser.
The Stonehaven team will also be on hand to dish out safety advice to members of the community.
Firefighter Ali Ogilvie, who is based at Stonehaven and is also a volunteer for the charity, said: “Monies raised through national fundraising initiatives provide a real boost to The Fire Fighters Charity.
“At Stonehaven we are really looking forward to taking part in the National Car Wash event this year.
“We would urge local people to come along and support the day where you can meet the firefighters in Stonehaven, have a look around the fire engines, take photos and be offered free home fire safety advice all while we wash your car.”
Chief executive of The Fire Fighters Charity, Jill Tolfrey, said: “The National Car Wash League provides a vital source of income for the charity, as well as being a fun and popular event.
“It costs £9million a year to keep The Fire Fighters Charity running – and with no regular government funding, we rely completely on donations and goodwill.”
