An Aberdeenshire resident has spoken of her horror after discovering her husband was set upon by dogs while taking his 10-year-old daughter to the park.
Cilla Wood, from Banchory, yesterday described the “devastating” impact the incident has had on her family.
Her husband, Iain, was viciously attacked by a rottweiler and a Staffy cross on Monday in Tillybreak playing fields.
Mr Wood was at the park with his young daughter and his beagle, Fred, when he spotted the two animals heading towards him.
They punctured his face and subsequently inflicted wounds on Fred.
Mrs Wood said: “My husband was attacked whilst walking our beagle, along with our 10-year old daughter.
“He had seen the dogs come off the lead about two football pitches away, and they absolutely just came for him.”
Following the incident, Mr Wood was too upset to speak to the Press and Journal. His wife added that he had gone into shock and was now taking time off work.
She said: “The dogs made punctures in my husband’s face as well as badly injuring my dog.
“Now, my little girl won’t even go to the park, she’s so shaken up.
“My husband is off work and is totally shaken up over this.”
Mr Wood and his wife went to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary to meet with facial plastic surgeons earlier this week.
Due to the puncturing nature of the scars, surgeons were unable to stitch them up and Mr Wood will have to wait for up to six month before surgeons can operate on the affected area.
He is also on a course of antibiotics after the wounds became infected.
Mrs Wood added: “The whole thing is unbelievable and incredibly upsetting. When I saw my husband’s face, I just broke down in tears.”
Banchory and Mid-Deeside councillor, Linda Clark, said: “There is always going to be problems with some dogs and I am shocked to hear about this incident.
“It must have been extremely frightening for both him and his daughter and I wish the family all the best.
Police confirmed that officers in Banchory were made aware of the incident and enquiries into the matter are ongoing.
