Police were last night quizzing a man over claims a flasher exposed himself to youngsters at a north-east swimming pool.
He was detained by officers probing allegations of indecent behaviour in the male showers at the open air baths at Stonehaven.
The incident was reported by a couple visiting the north-east from Tayside when they later spotted the same man at the Olympia swimming pool in Dundee.
They had taken their children to Stonehaven for a day out and went to the Aberdeenshire Council-owned pool.
The husband became concerned by the behaviour of a man who spent a long time in the changing rooms area.
He said: “He was in the shower before I went in the pool, and I only noticed him because he was covered in massive red blotches all over his skin.
“Once I left the pool the same guy was still in the same shower which I thought was a bit strange.”
He said the man appeared to be flashing at young boys who were also in the showers.
He added: “I think it was more disbelief at first, then he did it again and it quickly turned to anger.
“I shouted and he saw me and scurried away to get changed.
“It’s very worrying as I am also a dad and luckily my kids were in the opposite changing room with my wife at the time.”
Police are now questioning a man in connection with the incident and have taken a statement from the witness.
A spokeswoman said: “The man who reported the incident is from Dundee and alerted Tayside police division after seeing the man for a second time at the Olympia.
“North-east police are now working alongside their counterparts to investigate.
“Officers are attending Stonehaven pool to determine whether the incident was reported to them.”
An Aberdeenshire Council spokeswoman said that because of the ongoing police investigation the local authority was unable to comment.
Stonehaven Community Council vice-chairman, Phil Mills-Bishop, said: “Obviously these things don’t happen very often, but when they do the community is quite rightly concerned.
“If these allegations are proven correct, I think the next step is to ensure that there are patrols not just around the poolside but off poolside as well.”
Police have urged anyone with information to contact them on 101.
