A project to transform a neglected Mearns manse into a thriving community garden will reach a milestone this weekend.
Volunteers in Inverbervie will hold a birthday party for the Voyage of Life initiative on Saturday to mark a year since the green space opened its doors to the public.
More than 2,500 have visited the garden, located next to Bervie Parish Church on King Street, in the 12 months since its opening.
Brighter Bervie spearheaded the project, which has featured on TV’s popular Beechgrove Garden.
Visitors from as far afield as the US and Germany have since paid a visit to the attraction.
The nautical-themed garden includes a model lighthouse and slipway of trees representing the stocks of s shipyard.
Tom Campbell, chairman of Brighter Bervie, said the event this weekend would mark a “significant milestone” for the group.
He added: “The public response in the last 12 months has been extremely favourable and a lot of people are really enjoying and appreciating the garden.
“Locals are using it as a nice, quiet, reflective space and we are getting visitors in from all the ‘airts and pairts’.
“We see the garden very much as an outreach from Bervie Parish Church and although it is a walled garden, it is very much in the spirit of ‘church without walls’ because we are taking our church into the open.
The party will feature live music, poetry reading, a quiz, treasure hunt, raffle, teas and a “bring your own” BBQ.
The event will run from 2pm to 4pm.
Entry is free but donations to support Brighter Bervie’s ongoing work is welcomed.
