Councillors will decide next week on the future expansion of an Aberdeenshire business park after the original plans were put on hold.
The Garioch area committee will meet on Tuesday to discuss the prospect of developing the Thainstone Business Park in Inverurie.
The proposals previously came before the committee back in June, but the decision was deferred with councillors agreeing to make a site visit before approving or declining the plans.
The proposals include the building of new drainage systems, an access road and associated infrastructure buildings, in addition to employment space, comprising 10,200m2 class four offices, 8,000m2 class five industrial space and 12,800m2 class six storage and distribution units.
In the papers being submitted to councillors, Stephen Archer, director of infrastructure services for Aberdeenshire Council, recommended the scheme be approved.
He wrote: “The proposed development accords with the development plan and there are no material considerations which indicate permission should be refused.”
However, the initiative has attracted a large volume of objections.
Kintore and District Community Council raised concerns that, if it was given the go-ahead, the buildings would significantly impact the views of Bennachie.
A petition against the development, launched by local action group Keep the Lower Don Valley Beautiful, also attracted more than 150 signatures.
A spokeswoman for the group previously said: “This beautiful landscape is at risk due to a proposal to change 50-plus acres of farmland to commercial use.
“This is on a very prominent hillside which is visible for many miles around and equates to about 32 football pitches which is a considerable amount of land.
“When looking across the valley, the land in question lies directly below the top of Bennachie.
“It will destroy the landscape and be visible for miles around. There will be loss of amenity for the many members of the public who use the area for walking.”
Councillors will visit the site next week prior to the meeting.
