Aberdeen City Council has confirmed it is planning a commemorative event to honour athletes who have performed with distinction at the Olympics in Rio.
There have been medal-winning displays from a number of north-east members of Team GB during the successful Games in Brazil.
These include Robbie Renwick in swimming, David Florence in canoeing and Katherine Grainger, who collected her fifth medal in rowing at the age of 40.
The Olympics finish this weekend, but the Paralympics get under way early next month in Brazil and Granite City cyclist Neil Fachie will be striving to repeat his gold medal success from London four years ago.
An Aberdeen City Council spokesperson said on Friday: “The Lord Provost is in discussion with the Provost of Aberdeenshire about the most appropriate way to celebrate the fine achievements of our north-east Olympic and Paralympic athletes.
“The type of event has yet to be decided, however it will take place after the Paralympics [which start on September 7].
“This will give communities the chance to show their admiration and respect for the hard work and determination of all our athletes who are involved in Rio.”
