A busy Aberdeen road is to continue as a one-way street as engineers carry out work on a suspected gas leak.
From 6pm last night, workers sealed off Riverside Drive between the Queen Elizabeth Bridge and the roundabout stopping traffic heading south from the city centre.
The leak broke out on Tuesday night and SGN staff closed the southbound lane on Great Southern Road near to the King George VI roundabout at around 6.30pm.
An SGN spokeswoman said last night: “We’ve been working since last night in Great Southern Road, Aberdeen, near the Great Southern Road/Riverside Drive roundabout, carrying out emergency repair work – working on the southbound side of the road opposite the entrance to the Winter Gardens.
“It’s been necessary to put inside lane closures in place in Great Southern Road and Riverside Drive while we carry out our work.
“In Great Southern Road traffic is able to pass our work area in the outside lanes.
“From 6pm this evening, Riverside Drive will become one way only from the roundabout for traffic heading towards the city centre.
“Traffic heading south from the city centre will not be able to travel via Riverside Drive, which is closed between Queen Elizabeth Bridge and the roundabout. There will be a signed diversion in place with an alternative route.
“It’s too early to say at this stage how long our work will take. We will continue to post updates on our website as our work progresses.
“We’d like to thank road users and local residents for their continued patience while we complete our essential work. “
