The north-east’s only open air swimming attraction will close for the season this weekend.

Stonehaven Open Air Swimming Pool will shut after Sunday’s session, which runs from 10am-6pm.

But the group of volunteers who maintain the popular attraction said it had been a great season, with scores of families turning out to enjoy the balmy water, inflatable fun and midnight swims.

Chairman of the friends group, Pete Hill, said: “Sadly, all good things must come to an end but we want to make sure the last day for season 2016 is filled with fun.

“On behalf of all the friends, I’d like to thank everyone who has swum, sat on the terraces, splashed in the paddling pool, posed for photos, made donations, paid to advertise at the pool or bought our pool souvenirs or raffle tickets.

“With the raffle scheduled to be drawn on Sunday afternoon before the pool closes at 6pm, this weekend is certainly the last chance to buy tickets.”

Proceeds from the raffle will go towards the friends’ work of maintaining, enhancing and promoting the pool for next year.

Mr Hill added: “It’s a labour of love for us and we all hope that some of that love for the pool has rubbed off on our customers.

“We hope they’ll spread the word both in person and through social media – we want an even more successful season next year.”
