An investigation into the source of the leaked Legogate report has been concluded and no further action will be taken over the matter.
Aberdeenshire Council’s chief executive, Jim Savege, investigated the events surrounding the short-lived North Sea Commission trip and issued councillors with a confidential report.
Details of the document – which was due to be released later this month – were published by the Press and Journal two weeks ago, forcing an emergency meeting of the authority.
Mr Savege then launched a second probe to establish the source of the leak following outrage from councillors across the chamber at Woodhill House.
During yesterday’s emergency session, independent councillor Dave Stewart condemned the report’s early release.
He said: “Be honest and be truthful. Does that go for the person who leaked it to the press? That is the bigger scandal.”
The investigation has now come to an end and, because the source of the leak could not be found, no further action will be taken.
Last night Mr Savege stated: “I am concerned about documents being leaked when they have been marked as confidential, every organisation needs to have the ability to discuss and deal with things on a confidential basis.
“We’ve carried out the investigation and have not identified the source of where the document was leaked from.
“But I think the point was made and we will move on.”
