A man has appeared in court accused of carrying out a fraudulent scheme in Aberdeen.
Nazeeb El-Syed appeared in private at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday.
The 21-year-old, from London, made no plea or declaration and the case was continued for further examination.
The case has been continued for further examination.
His appearance came after police yesterday confirmed they had charged a man for allegedly impersonating a “legitimate organisation” over July and August.
Detective Inspector Lee Jardine urged the public to be on the lookout for vulnerable people being targeted in scams.
“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the public who provided information in relation to these inquiries and flagged up their concerns to us as soon as possible,” he said.
“Police Scotland is committed to detecting callers who target vulnerable people within their own homes for money, whether it’s on doorsteps or trying to obtain details over the phone.
“It is extremely important that members of the public are on their guard from callers asking for your banking details or personal information.
“You should never, ever provide your banking information, bank card, pin number or personal details to anyone whether on the phone or in person – no official body will ever ask you for these details especially on your doorstep, on the phone, by e-mail or letter.
“Should anyone call you or attend at your home asking for financial information please do not provide this without first confirming their identity with the relevant authority.
“The best approach would be to not give them any information at all unless you are 100% sure who they are.”
