Aberdeen charities are to benefit from a £55,000 windfall, thanks to employees and customers at M&S stores in the city centre.
The money will be shared between Alzheimer Scotland, Marie Curie, national children’s charity Dreams Come True and Prostate Cancer UK.
St Nicholas Street store manager Jason Dixon played a big part in the fundraising drive, which took place over the past year at both his and the Union Square store.
He urged staff to try new ways of raising money including a charity football match at Aberdeen Sports Village, and a sponsored climb of Ben Nevis, which raised over £2,000.
The stores also held bag packing and bake sale events.
Mr Dixon said the staff should be very proud of their efforts having gone “above and beyond” in helping raise funds.
He added: “The teams set out to do as much as we possibly could for local causes that were important to colleagues and customers – and that is exactly what we have done.
“We would like to say a huge thank you to our customers who have supported all of our in-store events over the course of the last year.”
Dean Sanders, Scotland Development Officer at Dreams Come True said: “This money is going to make a huge difference to the lives of many children.”
Throughout September, M&S staff will be raising money for Macmillan and will attempt to beat the £17,711 raised last year.
