A north-east community centre has been awarded a £20,000 grant to create a new play park.
The Mintlaw and Central Buchan Initiative (Macbi) will now have access to a “safe and fun” outdoor play area for local families to enjoy, thanks to the Suez Communities Trust.
The playground will include a wooden pirate ship, a climbing frame and a miniature suspension bridge for children to play on.
Connie Strachan, Macbi’s community manager, stated: “We are absolutely delighted that, next year, we will have a new outdoor play area added to the facility and a huge thank you to Suez Communities Trust for awarding us with most of the funding to make this happen.”
The group, formerly known as the Sita Trust, provides grants through the Scottish Landfill Communities Fund.
The scheme is linked to the Scottish Landfill Tax which encourages the operators of waste sites to offer support to local community and environmental causes.
Marianne Ivin of Suez Communities Trust added: “The Macbi community hub is fantastic centre with a lot to offer the local community.
“We are very happy to offer the funding to enable a new play area to be added to the centre.
“And we look forward to seeing the project come to life.”
The Macbi centre is situated in the heart of Mintlaw, adjacent to the village’s academy and health centre.
The facility has a multi-purpose sports and events hall, fitness suite and meeting rooms. On Fridays, the centre is open for a youth club.
Earlier this year, the centre hosted a community road safety event as part of an initiative to reduce fatal collisions on Buchan’s roads.
