More than 800 athletes of all ages donned running shoes – and in many cases superhero costumes – to take part in the Dandara 5k at Hazlehead Park.
Organisers said that the annual event had been a huge success, raising more than £20,000 towards the park’s coffers.
Around 2,000 supporters turned up to cheer on the 300 children and 500 adults who took part in Saturday’s event, organised by the Friends of Hazlehead and Sport Aberdeen.
As well as the 5k, there were also 1k and 2k children’s races and a 600m fun run.
American Matthew Wolak produced a composed record-breaking performance to win the men’s prize in the Dandara 5km.
It is now two wins out of two for the 32-year-old research biologist, who stormed to victory when making his north-east racing debut in the previous weekend’s Union Street mile.
Wolak, who comes from Virginia but is based at Aberdeen University, has been living in the north-east for three years and has only now started racing.
He completed the run through the Hazlehead woodland trail in 16min 56sec to slice 15sec off the previous record set by Stonehaven Running Club’s Ron Gauld in the inaugural race in 2014.
